Born from The David S & Sophia M Harris Family Foundation, Project H.A.R.R.I.S. was founded on the belief that talent is everywhere, but access to opportunity is not. What began as a vision to expose underserved youth to STEM experiences has grown into a structured program that provides mentorship, resources, and life-changing opportunities.
STEM fields continue to lack diversity, and many underserved youth face significant barriers to access. Today, only about 5% of astronauts are African American, roughly 9% of U.S. scientists are African American, and just 3% of U.S. engineers are Black. These gaps reflect a lack of exposure, resources, and opportunity—not talent.
Our program addresses this gap by providing access to opportunity. We provide fully supported STEM experiences, connect students with mentors, and offer real-world exposure. Our approach is designed to move students from curiosity to confidence—equipping them with the tools and guidance needed to succeed in STEM pathways.

Our mission is to empower underserved youth by providing access to STEM experiences that spark curiosity, build confidence, and create pathways to future success. Through exposure, mentorship, and support, we help young people turn their potential into purpose and their aspirations into achievable, lasting outcomes.
